We are just a week away from Dock Days and the beginning of the 2021 sailing. Next Friday and Saturday we will be installing all of the docks and hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate with good weather and light winds. We are starting at 9:00 AM both days so that we can make the most of the daylight. Thanks to all those who have already signed up so that we can form teams and get a good start on the installation. Since covid remains with us we will not be providing lunch but we will have water and soft drinks available. We will break at noon each day for about an hour for lunch. Our goal is to have all the sections in place by the end of Friday so that Saturday the focus will be on stem pole installation.

The window replacement project remains on schedule with the expectation that the windows will be installed not later than the second week of May. Barring any unexpected rot in the structure around the windows the project should not take more than 2 days to complete. Completion of this project is the second phase of major maintenance to the house to protect the structure.

Membership cards and Muncie city tags have been mailed to all paid memberships. On May 1 the access code to the “MEMBERS LOGIN” portion of the website will change to the house and gate codes you have on your membership card. For our newer members this code changes annually for security purposes. We have received a few questions concerning the city tag. Below are a couple questions we have received and the answers concerning the city tag.

Q. Can I get a replacement tag if I misplace or damage the original?

ANS. We must account for every tag that is issued. If you misplace your tag you will have to purchase a new tag. If your tag is damaged you can receive a replacement ONLY if you return the damaged tag to out Treasurer Glenna Divine.

Q. Where do I need to display the tag?

ANS. The tag should be displayed on the lower front portion of your mast.

On Saturday April 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM we start our basic sailing skills program. Currently we have 18 people signed up with a maximum of 25 available places. The sign up is located on the club website in the “MEMBERS LOGIN” and then select “Basic Sailing Class”. Once you sign up you will receive a confirmation.

We also have several projects that we are working on and need your help to complete them, Some projects are simple and require little effort while others are more involved. A list of the projects are listed in the “Club Projects” heading in the “MEMBERS LOGIN” section of the website. If you have the skills to assist in these projects would appreciate your help. The list will be changing over time as projects are completed and others came about. If you have questions about a project please contact me.

There have been questions concerning the opening of the clubhouse. Our intention is to open the house in a safe and compliant manner. The primary goal is to keep everyone safe while allowing complete use of the facilities. We will be posting information concerning the house use and what practices need to be followed. Watch for updates.

Memorial Day is rapidly approaching. A long history of the club has been to start the season with a Memorial Day breakfast. This year the breakfast will be on Saturday May 29, 2021. You should have received a notice of this event with your membership cards. Because of covid this year we had to make some adjustments to safely provide food. Everything will be served and all servers will wear protective equipment. If you are planning on attending please RSVP per the invitation so that adequate food is available.

Safely securing your boat in a mooring requires the proper line and properly tying it off. At a minimum the line used for securing you boat MUST be 3/8” diameter double braided nylon line. Instruction for how to secure your boat are located on the website depending on the type of slip you are in. We have laminated cards available as well and if you would like a card please see our Harbormaster Make Jackson. Mooring line becomes scarce at the beginning of the season so it is recommended to purchase it soon. If you are unsure of what type of line is required a sample line will posted inside the clubhouse near the restrooms. Don’t forget to inspect your mooring lines and replace any frayed lines.
