I am a bit late with this month’s issue of Commodore’s Corner thanks to the covid bug. After three years I thought it passed me by but unfortunately it did not. This could not have come at a worse time as we have a lot to do and time is getting short. Weather is another factor that has not helped us and hopefully we are truly on the way to spring. Getting back on track will be the order of the week and it does look like the weather will begin to break.
The city of Muncie is installing 240 new EZ Dock slips this year. We did provide them with some initial support in assembling the dock sections. Currently there are 40 of the city’s slips in our harbor area that will be moved to the north cove shortly. At the same time we will be receiving the additional EZ Dock sections that will make A Dock to all floating slips. We will be installing these docks plus the permanent anchors for Dock over the next few weeks.This. work will be done outside dock days since the it does require some other tools as well as moving 14 2000 pound anchors from the crane to A dock. Once this work is complete it will only require no more than 4 people a couple of hours to set up or close down the season.
We have been having continuous conversation with Prairie Creek on rules, events and garbage. While we are close on getting direction on these items we are not ready to publish all the details. We do expect to have some positive action in restricting fisherman around our boats. This action is being pursued by the pontoon’s who are also frustrated with fish hooks and line tangled on their boats. As soon as we know more we will pass it.
Dock assignments will be out soon. We had to make some last minute changes because of of late entries. This year the same as last year Roger Domingo has taken on the task of making name tags for each slip. Your name will be attached to a cleat or a pole with a wire tie. This should eliminate the confusion over assignments. If you did not attend the Spring Banquet you did not receive you membership cards or boat tag. Glenna Divine will be setting uo times and dates that she will be at the club to distribute both. This is an attempt to lower our mailing expense as well as eliminate lost mailings. Glenna will be posting the schedule shortly.
Dock Days will be May 12 and 13. On Friday the 12th we will focus on the launch ramp and day sailer dock. We will also be working on C dock. Saturday we will complete working on C dock. The House and Grounds crew is working on the house opening and we do no expect any delays. If your membership is not paid by April 25, 2023 is is the last club notification you will receive since that is the expiration of your membership.
Have a happy and blessed Easter.
