While the season started slowly we are moving into high gear and looking for a very active year. The Racing/Parade program is up and running, the youth sailing program will begin on Tuesday June 13 and we will.  Soon begin our basic sail train program. All of these activities are possible through the time and effort put forth by members committed to promoting sailing. All of these programs are designed not only to provide current members with activities but to attract new members. We are continuing to seek members to help with other social events. Please contact Steve Bucher to see how you can help with one or more of these events. It is the participation of everyone in the club that allows us to have these events.

Club boats are rigged and being cleaned for member use. The Sunfish, O’Day 17 and Puffer are ready for use. The Snipe will be available as soon as we construct a tether for the dagger board. The Snipe is one that we want to get on the water so that we can invite the family that donated it us can come out and the original owner can see his boat on the water one last time. We have had continued contact with the family and they are excited to see the boat one more time. We will let you know when when this family will be with us so that we can have as members as possible present to show our gratitude for their gift.

Last Saturday our ice freezer failed and water was across the basement floor. This was not a totally unexpected event but unfortunately it occurred as the McGee family was to begin a shower. After a quick clean up the event occurred with incident. We were able to salvage 13 bags of ice and place them in the various refrigerator freezers in the house. By Tuesday a new freezer was purchased and put in place so that those who use the ice program would continue to have ice. The new freezer is about half the sicze of the old freezer and this should be more efficient since the old freezer was seldom full and our current ice supplieris close by. We should see a significant impact on our electric bill since the old freezer was  in excess of 15 years old and the lid did not close properly due to a bent hinge. A new looking system will be install this coming week to limit access to those in the ice program.

We are also dismantling one of the two barges as we no longer need two barges. Hardware (cleats) that are on that barge will be repurposed for use on the launch ramp. The dismantling is expected to begin this week. Steel barrels from this barge will be placed along the north side of the dock house and are available to members for free. We also have some 55 gallon poly barrels, These barrels were used for car wash soap and most have been rinsed out. These are available on a first come first served basis. All barrels will be available for two weeks maximum.

The gate locks are increasingly difficult to read the numbers especially in the dark. We are looking at trying to make the numbers more readable as well as looking at options that are easier to read. One of the significant challenges is that we need to have a lock that is accessible from both sides of the gate. Any suggestions are welcome.

As of this week the City of Muncie has provided the new trash dumpster. We will no longer be using the toters that had previously been used. The toters will be removed from our property. All trash should be put into the dumpster. We will maintain a small trash can in the dock house but it will be our responsibility to empty that trash can into the dumpster. For special events smaller trash cans will be used to collect trash and all trash will need to be put into the dumpster at the end of the event.

See you on the water!
