We are at the end of the 2024 sailing. The remaining weeks will be busy as we boats are removed, docks are winterized and we conduct our annual meeting and elect 3 members to the board. Here are the important dates in the coming weeks:
October 15—$20 fee for winter storage of kayaks paid. If winter fee is not paid kayaks need to be removed by October 30. You will retain the same spot next season even if you don’t utilize winter storage as long as your 2025 fees are paid by March 15, 2025.
October 20—Annual dinner, meeting and election of 3 board members. An entree will be provided by the club and sides requested from members. Watch for more details.
October 23—All boats and trailers removed from club property.
October 26—Dock day to secure docks and club boats for the winter. Watch for more information as we call for volunteers.
In the next two weeks watch you email for details about the annual meeting and bios for the board candidates. If you are unable to attend the annual you can designate a proxy by submitting a proxy request to Cher Kelley at cahamaker@gmail.com. In your request you need to designate the person you want to act as your proxy. At the annual meeting Cher will provide your designated proxy with an additional ballot. There is only one ballot per membership.
Prairie Creek Reservoir is working on rules to be implemented beginning the spring of 2025. Among the rules that are being considered is a rule to ban wave boats from the reservoir. These boats are destructive to the shoreline and stress your anchor system and mooring lines. It is expected that this issue will be put before the parks board either in December or January. When this does come before the Muncie Parks Board it will be important that we have as many people as possible speak our support for this ban. As the details become available we will post that information.
If you have any personal property in the dock house it is important that it be removed by October 11, 2024. We are assessing everything in the dock house and all unnecessary materials will be disposed of. .
We do have a couple items that are plentiful so if you have a need for either of these items please let me know, The two items that we have in abundance are old fire hose which make a good rub rail type material and some galvanized steel cable.
Since we are in the season of removing boats and people will be using the gin pole please do not park in the area of the gin pole. If you have never used the gin pole or don’t feel comfortable using the pole contact myself, Steven Scherschel, Jerry Priddy or Gary Divine for help. Don’t forget to inspect the bridle before using it. If it has any damage do not use and contact me or Steve Scherschel for a replacement. Remember to complete the user log so that we can monitor usage and review any comments.
If you need a ladder there are two ladders located in the dock house in the northeast corner. Both ladders are on storage hooks and we ask that you return them where you found them. The smaller lighter ladder does have an optional tool tray. If you pull the tray up into the locked position and want to return it to the stored position push the two tabs on the side of the tray away from the tray and push down. The ladder will fold by pulling up on the blu handle under the top step.
Enjoy the final days of sailing season!
