The warm weather is finally upon us and it is good see so many boats in the water. As of this writing we have filled all but one on water slips and we continue to receive new memberships. It is very possible that we will achieve 80 memberships this year. We are looking forward to summer where we will begin returning to normal and have the ability to socialize with one another. Roger Domingo has taken the lead on getting a fun (no pressure) racing program in place. Even if you don’t have a boat or you are uncertain about racing contact Roger and we will work on getting you in a boat on the water. Please check the calendar on the web site to keep up to date on what is happening in the club as we continue to create new events for everyone to participate in. We would also like to hear from you with suggestions that would bring all of us closer together. If you have suggestions contact any one of the board members so that we can evaluate the suggestions and budget resources to support events. A list of the board members is below in case you don’t know who they are.
As of Friday we have completed another major project to preserve the clubhouse. We have replaced old rotting windows in the house with new maintenance free vinyl windows. It is now possible to open the windows and not have the bugs come in while enjoying the lake breeze. The windows are clad with aluminum trim which is also maintenance free and is properly pitched to ensure water runs away from the house. If you do open windows to enjoy the breeze please make sure you close and lock the windows before you leave. We continue to find gates that are not locked or combination locks that are not scrambled. We need everyone’s cooperation in ensuring we properly lock up before we leave.
Fisherman and people anchoring in our harbor area continue to be a problem. We have received authorization from the Parks Department to post signs in our lease area to restrict fishing and anchoring. We hope to have those signs posted by the end of June. We are also awaiting a quote for a security gate at the entrance of the club. This quote will is in conjunction with the Parks Department quote fro security gates. As we receive more information on this we will be posting that information.
On October 2, 2021 Muncie will host one of only two Ironman full and half marathons in the United States. As of a month ago the Muncie events were sold out. This event is expected to bring a significantly larger number of participants than we have seen in the past as well as more observers. We have been asked provide boats to help mark the course as well as provide a safety station for swimmers if they need to rest. We have limited information at this time but expect to receive more during the month of June. Volunteering for this event will require an EARLY morning start but will end around midday. I will post a separate email with more information later this month. Access to the club on October 2, 2021 will be restricted and roads in the area close. It was also mentioned that on August 15, 2021 there another event that would restrict access to the club but we do not have any details of that event at this time. Watch for postings and emails on these events.
On Saturday May 29, 2021 we had had our annual Memorial Day kick off breakfast and sock burning. If you missed it the food was great and the sock burning event resulted in a contribution of new socks for those in need at the Muncie Mission. Thanks to all who can out and were able to meet many of our new members. A special thanks to Glenna Devine, Jane Weichel and Betsy Scherschel for preparing and serving the food, Charlie Earhart and Cindy Crull for set up and decorations, Tina and Steve Delisle for the name name tags and coordinating the sock burning and collection of new socks. While the weather could have been better the spirit and time together could not have been better.
In closing, we want to wish Tina and Steve Delisle the very best in their new adventure in Maryland. We thank you for all that you have done for Muncie Sailing Club and the treasures you have left behind. Best wishes.

First item I forgot to recognize ByVonda Bauer-Thomas for taking photos for our club album. The album is an important document that allows you to look up that face that you recognize but can’t put a name with it. For those who are new and don’t know where the album look in the shelve above the cabinets. Thank you ByVonda
