This summer has been a significant change from where we were a year ago. The most significant change has been our ability to enjoy each others company and enjoy the return of social events. Our Memorial Day breakfast was a great start followed by the start of a racing program and most recently our Independence Day BBQ that was one to remember. Yesterday’s BBQ had approximately 175 participants that enjoyed great food, great fireworks and great company. It was so good to have so many of our new members present and allow them to see the welcoming spirit that is the history of Muncie Sailing Club. Today our membership role stands at 82.
A big thank you goes out to all the members we have made worked the social events and made them successful. While it would be nice to mention the specific people who have worked so hard to make the events a success but I fear I would miss one or more who played a key role in allowing us to have an enjoyable time. We have more events coming so watch the website for what is yet to come. If you feel that you might be able to contribute some time in the preparation, serving or cleaning up for one of these events please contact Charlie Earhart. I am sure he will appreciate your assistance.
During the upcoming week we will be starting the expansion of B Dock. This expansion will give us 4 extra slips that we need so allow us to expand our on the water slips. The expansion is expected to take about a week to accomplish provide that Mother Nature cooperates. In order to complete this project we need light winds and no rain. The top four people on the waiting list for floating dock will be placed on the dock addition. If your have an interest on being on a floating dock please contact me. The waiting list is posted o the website and is based on a first come first served basis.
On October 2, 2021 Muncie will be hosting an Ironman event at Prairie Creek Reservoir. While there are multiple Ironman events in the country this year’s event in Muncie is unique in that it is only one of two events in the United States that will host both a half and full marathon. over the years MSC has supported Ironman events by providing boats around the perimeter of the swim course to help mark the course and act as s safety station for swimmers who need to take break or need some assistance. Since this years event is much larger the need for more boats on the course is necessary. While we do not have many details right now we are starting to develop a list of people who would be willing to volunteer to be part of this program. What we can tell is that the day will start early in the morning (approximately 6:30am) and goto about midday. If you have any interest in participating in this event please contact me so that I can put your name on the list and answer any questions you may have. Having your name on this list does not commit you to participating only to keep you informed so that you can make a decision when theme comes. On October 2, 2021 access will be restricted and you will not be able to reach the club until late in the day. We will post any road restrictions as we become aware of them so watch your email and the website.
We have moved the Go-Hoist into the Dock House to get it in out of the weather. It can be used in the Dock House if your boat sits low enough. If your boat sits higher please notify me or any other board member so that we can make arrangements to move the hoist outside. We will need a minimum of 2 days notice to get this set up for use.
As a reminder, we continue to find lights left on in the bathrooms and dock house and locks not scrambled. Please make sure to turn off the lights as you leave these areas and scramble the lock code when you open the lock. If you open the lock immediately set the lock to 0000 and it will be ready to lock when you leave. If your are the last person to leave the club make quick check to ensure all lights are turned out and all gate are locked and scrambled.
Happy Independence Day!
