It is hard to believe that we are already in mid-September and approaching the end of the 2021 sailing season. This year has been an exciting one as we did return to a modified life of normalcy and we have seen a substantial increase in membership and new activities in the club. One of the most significant events of the year has been the racing racing program which brought out many sailors and put many boats on the water. We look to continue this program not only for its enjoyment but because it does increase your sailing skills even if you don’t finish first. A special thanks goes out to Roger Domino and Leon Pinson who have spent many hours working on the details of the program and overseeing each event.

In 2021 the club experienced the completion of multiple capital programs to enhance and protect our facilities. This year we completed the installation of a new roof, new gutters with leaf guards, the addition of new soffet and facia and replaced the windows on the club house. Additionally we have added six new floating docks based on demand, added a permanent bridge to A dock and improved the operating hardware on the club’s O’Day 17. We are waiting on a couple more pieces of hardware to complete the all the improvements and plan to have everything completed by the end of the September.
We have a few key dates to keep in mind. The first event is the Italian dinner on October 9th. If you have not been to this event set the date aside because it is one not to miss. The second date is our annual meeting on Sunday October 17. At this event we will summarize the events and finances of the club but most importantly vote for new board members. Your participation is vital to the club’s future. The last event is dock days which will be held on Friday October 23 and Saturday 24. We will start at 9:00 am on both days and work until 5:00 pm on Friday and until completion on Saturday. Any time you can contribute is appreciated. Watch the website and your email for more details as these days approach
For 2022 we have initiated work on two important projects. The first is the purchase of additional floating docks based on current demand. We expect to accommodate all those who are currently on the waiting list. If you are on the waiting list you will be contacted with details concerning payments, accessories you might want to purchase and any special requests you may have. We will place the order this fall for spring delivery so that we can achieve the maximum discount. The second major project has to do with the 56 foot long pole laying on the grass near the upper parking lot. Thanks to Sam Shroyer we are in possession of the pole. The intended use for this pole is to provide a gin pole for mast raising. The construction of this pole will make mast raising easier and safer especially for those with tall masts. The system as it is currently designed will allow you to vertically lift your mast using an autobrake winch that can be stopped at any point during the lift and be cranked up or down without moving any level to change direction. Because this system requires a proper foundation and the fabrication of several parts not to mention simple tasks like painting it will take several months to complete. Creating the foundation is the first step in the process and we have started work on the design. We would like to complete the foundation this fall but our timeline is not yet firm. We will keep you posted on the progress of this project.
In my last email I noted that we would members to extend their season through the use of the floating docks. Anyone wishing to stay beyond the pull out MUST notify Mike Jackson by email or in person no later than October 9, 2021. Mike’s email is mjackson@indc1.com  Members assigned to a floating dock will be allowed to stay in their slip but you must notify Mike Jackson. Members on the fixed docks that are registered to extend their season will be assigned a slip on a floating dock.
There is no end just a new beginning.
See you on the water!
