Finally we are able to get out and start the sailing season. As we begin to get out on the water I want to go over some safety reminders. While operating or sailing a club boat a PFD must be worn and the following items MUST be on the boat:

  • Paddle (Paddles are hanging on the south wall of the dock house)
  • Floatation cushion (Cushions are in the cabinet next to the dock house entrance.)
If you use the pontoon or pickett boat please note how the mooring lines are secured. Do not untie the lies. All lines are sets that all that need to be done is lift the loop on the line over the post and unclip teethe bow line from the boat. Note that all mooring lines are in an X pattern to prevent the boats from swaying. When you return simply place the lines back over the poles in the same X pattern.
If you use the pontoon or picket boat check the fuel level and ensure that the motor is locked down before you leave the dock.If you don’t know how to know how to use either of these boats contact Mike Pace or myself so the you can safely use the boats. If a boat needs fuel notify Mike Pace. FUEL SHOULD ONLY BE ADDED WITH THE TANK ON LAND TO PREVENT A SPILL IN THE WATER.
We are equipping the pontoon boat with additional safety and recovery equipment so that we can provide to aid to boaters in distress. At the current time the boat is equipped with PFR’s, a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tow line, paddle/boat hook, 2 mylar blankets and a crane. We will be adding an anchor, ladder and a life sling to aid people in boarding the pontoon. We will be conducting training for those who are interested and we have designated a special team to respond to requests in the off hours. Look for future postings on this subject.
Now that we have completed the dock work we can focus on raising the gin pole.the phase of the project will be the excavation and construction of the foundation, fabrication and painting of the the pole and boom, installing the hardware and finally the raising of the pole itself. The excavation and foundation phase is the most critical phase of the project followed by the raising of the pole itself. Along the way we will be posting requests for assistance with the painting and some of the assembly.
There are a few thank you’s I need to catch up on. First I did miss Steve Brooks in the list of helpers in getting the docks in place. Steve is always there to help and unfortunately I overlooked him. The second thank-you goes out to Chy and Justin Rennick along with all of Chy’s friends for their work on the Memorial day breakfast last Saturday. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding.

As a final note, while we do not currently have any open floating slips we do have a waiting list for those who are interested. We will offer openings to those on the waiting list in the order that are received. The list will be posted on the website.
See you on the water!
