I am a bit late in getting this out but the end of the season is always busy. Thanks to everyone in getting you boats out and off the property. Saturday we will complete the job by removing C dock, the day sailer dock and the launch ramp. Th house will officially close on Saturday and all water and bathrooms will be closed. If you have signed up to work on Saturday thank you. By signing up we are able to put crews together and start working without delay. More importantly it lets us plan of lunch . If you have not yet signed up there is still time to do so or if you just show upwelling will get you assigned to a crew. Lunch will be served about noon.
Last Sunday we had our annual meeting and the vote for our new board members. The new board members are Frank Baldwin, Justin Curley and Ali Szymanski. The officers for the coming year are:
Commodore: Joe Kucharski
Vice Commodore: Keith Addison
Treasurer: Glenna Divine
Secretary : Cher Kelley
Thanks to all those who turned out on Sunday and made the meeting a success. There will be a posting that provides details from the meeting.
One of the major projects that we are starting on immediately is the construction of the long awaited gin pole. There is a significant amount of work to do so we will be looking for volunteers to help. The first step is together the foundation poured before winter. This will require excavating a 5’X5’X5.5’ hole, placing the pole sleeve and pouring concrete. Once we finalize the design of the fabricated pats we will create this over the next few months. Once the parts are fabricated the parts will need to be welded to the pole. In the early spring we will paint the pole and prepare it for raising. If you have skills that will help us accomplish any step please contact me.
Another winter project that will be underway in the next week or so is the fabrication of the kayak/paddle board storage. This will require basic wood framing skills. If you are interested in helping with this project let Steve Scherschel or me know. We expect to have 10 slots available and each slot will be capable of holding at least 2 kayaks. Details on the cost and availability will be posted after our next board meeting on November 9, 2023. To compliment the kayak storage we will have the kayak launch as a permanent feature. Deaton Waterfront Services has contributed the launch to the club as a thank you for our assistance in getting the city’s new docks installed.
A third winter project is the updating the outside bulletin board. It will require the surgical demolition of the existing structure and reconstructing a new board. We are looking for volunteers to work on this project as well.
The good news for the coming season is that there will not be an increase in the city fees or the club membership fees. We do have a three year agreement with the city not to raise fees through the 2025 sailing season.
The 2024 sailing season is only 5 months away!
