We hope you all have a great Thanksgiving.
The new board is looking for next year to be filled with sailing fun and growth. Our Sailing club (started on November 4th 1963) is a jewel in the state of Indiana. We have a large sailing area with no bridge obstructions, clean water, our own beach, arguably the best views (particularly of sunsets) and low membership and slip fees. If you have friends that might like to consider joining and you would like myself or someone to talk to them, just let me know.
We ended our year (October 31st) with 65 members and our kayak storage almost full. The last of the old docks (which were labor intensive to put in and take out) have been retired. The dock house has been reorganized and old or unused items have been either eliminated or in the case of extra dock poles, sold to Prairie Creek for their floating dock installation. Dock setup in the future will require much less time to complete and volunteers can focus more on the other club opening tasks so we can jump start our season.
We had a survey at the Annual Meeting to gauge general interest in having a limited number of MSC branded products (hat, tee-shirt, zippered sweatshirt with a hoodie) available for purchase. Twenty-five people indicated they’d be interested in one or more of the items. As a result, we’ll be putting together a program for this; hopefully by spring. Look for more on this later.
Prairie Creek Park Management is still having its challenges and we’re trying to stay on top of it. We have provided and continue to provide them with assistance in their dock infrastructure and provide input in their rules document.
I’ll have a list of upcoming club projects soon after we finalize the 2025 budget.
For the upcoming season, the club fees are expected to stay the same. We’re in the final year of an agreement with the city that keeps our slip fees at $500. We’ll work to keep them as favorable as possible in upcoming years. As usual, the payment of fees will be due in March allowing time for dock and mooring assignments to be completed.
