Dear Members,
Although we are currently facing sub-zero temperatures and snow, we are only weeks away from spring and the start of a new sailing season.
By now, everyone should have received an invitation to the spring banquet. We hope you will join us to help kick off the season. In addition to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones, this is an opportunity to learn about the latest developments at the club and find out how you can contribute to our progress. If you have any questions or suggestions please bring them along so that we can address them.
Registration for the 2026 is open and applications can be processed either on-line or by paper application. To register on-line go to the club website (sail-msc.com). If you want to register by mail a PDF application form is available on the website by selecting the APPLY NOW button. All renewing members need to have their application submitted by March 15, 2026 to avoid a late fee. If you have any questions please contact me or any board member for assistance.
At this time we are seeking about 3 or 4 members to volunteer to begin learning about our dock system. This is a critical function for the club and for those who have worked on the system from the beginning it is time to start sharing the knowledge of how the system works and the long term maintenance requirements. Since not all of the functions occur every year or even every other year it does take time to work through all the cycles. If you would like to learn more about the system and what would be required please contact me or Steve Scherschel.
Financially the club remains in good shape with emergency and capital funds in place. Currently our Capital fund has $6,632.77 at the close of January. Monies received as initiation fees are placed in this account and are set aside for future projects like roof replacement. or window replacement. The board has agreed that a minimum $1,000 will be put into the Capital fund annually. Since the initiation fee is $200 per new member it will take 5 new memberships to fund this account to $1,000 minimum. annually. If we receive more than 5 new members all of those funds would go into the Capital account. If we do not reach 5 new memberships in the season then the difference between the $1,000 minimum and what is received as initiation fees would be taken out of the operating funds and placed into the Capital fund at the close of the season. This practice guarantees that money will always be available for major projects. The Emergency fund remains at $13,000 and the Dock fund is currently at zero. We do expect that this fund will grow as we receive new members and they pay their $900 contribution. We are beginning the season with a little over $6,500 in operating funds which is typical for this time of the year. This balance will increase as memberships are paid over the next few months. At this time we do not have any Capital or Dock Projects scheduled.
Hope to see you at the Spring Banquet ! We are looking forward to.a year of great sailing.
Best regards,
Joe Kucharski
