I hope everyone is planning to attend the club cookout at 5pm this Saturday (July 5th) and then hang around for the Muncie fireworks show at Prairie Creek. We always have a good time, and it looks like the weather will be perfect. The club will provide hot dogs, burgers, buns and lemonade. Thanks to everyone who signed up to help or bring something.
Note that Prairie Creek has closed its beaches because of elevated algae levels in the shallow water. Treatment has been delayed due to oxygen levels. Information I received today is that their beach will be closed through at least Saturday. In the interest of Safety, I’d recommend no one use our beach area this weekend. The bacteria only forms near shore, so they don’t see a problem swimming from boats in the open water.
The fireworks show will start at dusk in the northwest area of Prairie Creek. There’s good viewing from the club or you can go out on your boat and take it in from the water. Be sure to have lights on and always be vigilant as there will be many boats on the water.
We’ve been informed that there is an all-day Boater Safety Program put on by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and sponsored by Prairie Creek, that will be held at the Prairie Creek Office July 19 from 9am to 4pm. I’d encourage you to attend. This all-day program will make you a better or more informed boater and may qualify you for a discount on your boat insurance. They require you to bring $10 cash to share expenses for snacks and lunch. To register, send me an email with your name and contact information — by July 16th —. They don’t have an online registration.
Enjoy Independence Day Weekend.
