Hard to believe we are already in mid-November. On Friday November 12, 2021 the clubhouse will officially be closed and all water both inside and out will be turned off and drained for the season. For the hardy among us all boats need to be out of the water and removed from the club premises by Wednesday November 24, 2021. For those who have taken advantage of the few extra weeks on the water hopefully you have been able to enjoy the solitude of having the lake to yourself.
While we are closing out the 2021 season we have already started work on the 2022 season. Our first order of business is to pass a budget for 2022. Our goal is to have a budget passed by the end of December and as soon that is available you will receive a copy of the budget. The creation and funding of specific escrow accounts has made it possible for us to continue funding projects and keeping fees static. The two major projects underway are the construction of a gin pole and the addition of 8 additional finger slips to be installed in the spring. Work on the gin pole has begun with the removal of the base sleeve from the pole itself. The foundation design is being evaluated and actual work will begin in the early spring. Weather will dictate when we can begin removing the rust on the outside of the pole so that painting can begin. Work on the design and fabrication of the boom will start shortly. Completing the fabrication of the boom it will be welded to the pole and the entire assembly painted before the pole can be raised. During the winter months we will purchase and assemble the various components needed to make the pole functional. One of the major components required is an auto brake winch which will allow you to stop at any point of the process and not have to worry about applying a brake. This winch will also allow you to change direction without having to to locate a reverse lever. A bridle will be constructed to work on any mast and have a protective surface that will not mar your mast. The installation of the gin pole will make the raising of your mast safer, easier and quicker. Our intention is to have this project ready for the launch season.
Many members have had questions about where they can go for a specific service or find a product for cleaning or repairing their boat. I am putting together a directory of products and services used by our members that have produced good results. If you have a service or a product that you have used and are pleased with the results please forward that information to me so that we care share that with our members. The information that I am looking for is:
- What is the purpose of the product or service (i.e. rust removal, hardware, paint, varnish, storage, fiberglass repair, etc.)
- The name of the product or service provider
- Where to purchase the product or service (Contact information)
- Cost estimate where possible
- Special notes
I will have the first version available through the club website in a few weeks. This will be a living document so changes will be occurring as information is collected.
Finally, I would like to thank all those who contributed their time and effort to make the 2021 season a success. It was the combination of seasoned members and new members that allowed us to complete many projects, have successful social events and a sharing of knowledge.
Looking forward to a great 2022,
