Happy New Year! As we begin 2024 and enter the coldest part of the winter we continue to prepare for spring. Work on the gin pole continues. Thanks to Leon Pinson the bracket that supports the boom has been fabricated and is ready to weld to the pole. The boom hardware is in place and the boom has been assembled to ensure that all the components will work as expected. The boom has been disassembled and is ready for paint, The next steps will be to weld the boom bracket and winch mounting plat to the pole and get the pole painted and ready for raising. At this point the weather will be the determining factor in getting the pole raised. We do expect to have the gin pole completed by spring launch.
By the end of January the kayak/paddle board storage area construction in the dock house is expected to be completed by the end of January the painting of the racking system will have to wait until we reach some warmer weather. Painting should not take more than a day and we will be looking dfor volunteers to take on the painting and have it completed by April 1, 2024. If you are interested in storing your kayaks or paddle boards watch for additional information the will be posted next week. Each storage compartment will be approximately 32” wide by 48” deep with vessels being stored in a vertical position to allow for multiple vessels being stored in on e compartment. There will be 10 compartments available. Details of how compartments will be assigned will be covered in next week’s email.
In late April we will conduct some class room sessions on basic sailing skills. The classes are open to all current members with on the water training to follow. We will also conduct on the water train for those who participated in last seasons instruction but did not have the opportunity to complete the on the water sessions. We will be using a combination of club boats and personal boats for on the water sessions.
The upcoming season already has several events scheduled. One of the first events will be the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. We will provide additional information as we get closer to the date. Check the club calendar for events scheduled each month.
