Spring is rapidly approaching and we will be on the water soon. April is looking like a very busy month and the completion of some major projects and the beginning of some social activities. On April 6, 2024 we will have our Spring Banquet where we can catch up and learn about the stars of the club. If you haven’t sign up yet check it out on the website. Immediately following the the Banquet we will have the solar eclipse. There has been much preparation for this event and the club will be accessible for members and guests. We will have have the water turned on so bathrooms will be available.

We have been coordinating efforts with the city of Muncie and working on plans to secure the club property. On Thursday April 4, 2024 we will close off entrances to the club property to prevent non-members from entering the property and camping at the club. We will also be posting signs on the perimeter of the property that there is no public access. On the day of the eclipse we will have club volunteers on the property starting at 6:00 AM and ending at 6:00 PM. There will be 6 to 8 people working three four hour shifts. Only club members and guests will have access to the property and we will be checking each vehicle coming into the property. The city has posted that any non authorized vehicle entering club property will be towed at the owner’s expense. I do want to thank all those who volunteered one of the three security shifts.

The gin pole will be raised in the coming weeks but a firm date is not set since it will be weather dependent and time dependent based on Sam Shroyer’s availability. The raising of the pole will be a great effort. The pole is painted thanks to Ben Melton and looks great. All the hardware is in place and will be on the pole as we raise it. As soon as we have a confirmed dat for the raising I will send out a notice to everyone. Keep in mind that the notice may be only a day or two ahead of the actual raising so watch your email.

The kayak storage is erected thanks to Roger Domingo and Mike Pace and the painting is in the process of being completed by Yancey Carpenter and Erik Johnson. Space assignments will follow. There will be a designated cart for people to use to get their vessel to “A” for launch.

We do have a couple electrical items to complete on the crane and that will be completed shortly. On this project the crane was completely disassembled and all the electrical components were replaced as well as the upper bearing and the lower roller bearings. Again this was a major project thanks to Sam Shroyer, Jerry Priddy, Steve Scherschel and mike Pace.

On Saturday April 20, 2024 we will have Dock Day and will be looking of volunteers. We will be posting a request for volunteers for various jobs. Will many hands we can make short work for that day. Thanks in advance for volunteering.

These are the major project and there are a few other projects that you will notice as we begin the sailing season. Thanks to all those who contributed over the last several months to make the club what it is. The upcoming season looks bright and full of great times. Keith Addison has been putting together our events list for the year so look for that in email, on the website and posted in the club house.

If you have paid your dues you can pick up you membership cards and boat permits at the Spring Banquet. Also you can pick up your eclipse tee shirts you purchased and if you did not purchase one there will be a limited number of shirts available for purchase at the banquet. There are a limited number of eclipse glasses we will distribute at the Banquet.

That is all I have for now and hope to see you at the banquet.
